Trenches

Camaraderie of Mud: Trench Warfare in 1916

Here I stand in the trenches, happiness across no mans land,
It scares me to see this future, thus I clasp my shaky hand,
Many have been lost in the charge towards tomorrow,
Bodies littered, not grieved, time unspent left to borrow,
I have seen the glimpse of sheer delight, that exists across the way,
But to raise my head and boldly march, would see me shot this day,
So back into the trenches, safe from fair tomorrow,
Another day we wait, time wasted… time we borrow…
